Sweet Outfit: Halloween

Happy November!!!

Last night, being halloween I decided to wear my old vintage skirt. It's black and has gothic lace imprinted in the sheer material. I have not worn it in years. When I put it on I realised I have thrown out my black corset bodice piece since I last wore the skirt so I had nothing else gothic to go with it. This is how I came up with the idea to wear it as a dress with a black belt to hold it together.

I didn't really go out last night, just to pick up some DVD's and chinese. We had some kids come trick-or-treat-ing to our house. So we gave them 'blood-flavoured' lollypops. haha. We still have a stack left though.

So this is what I wore...

- Vintage Black Skirt (worn as dress)
- Black wrap belt from Cotton On Design
- Mary-Jane Heels from Girl Xpress @ Kmart

Weekly Rambles #014: 31/10/08

Weekly Rambles has changed for the better from an organised list to a truly rambled list of all the coolest websites, stores and fashions I have come across in the past week.

How amazing is this photograph? It's by Timmy Kern, friend of Gala Darling.

I was introduced to Trent's blog a couple of years ago. It never ceases to amaze me to this day.

I absolutely love the Courier Mail's blog Style Mistress. Who would have thought that a newspaper's website could be so chic!?

I'm so happy with my new Job at Diva Jewelers, you should check out our range today. It's so fabulous you'll want some even if your not a jewelry person.

I'm preparing to go to Vanuatu, next year, thanks to the awesome prices at the Student Flights website. Got to love being able to travel without the price tag.

Two of my favourite brands at the moment are Forever New and Sportsgirl.

Nubby Twiglet is an inspiring writer/designer/bloggist. I would love to meet her and then of course there is Gala an icon in her own right.

A new favourite blog of mine is Stylist Stuff. Check it out for behind the scenes of fashion shoots. It's fantastic!

Have a fantabulous Week.

Mod: the sixties bite

Sixtie's style Mod is back and it's big with girls going for a bob-cut hair style rather than long seventies waves, and opting for tailored shorts rather than scruffy denim numbers.

Award Ceremony Etiquette for dummies

AWARD CEREMONY ETIQUETTE

I am attending an award ceremony tonight, and after the Aria's which were on last Sunday I can't stop thinking about how one must behave at such an event. Here are some pointers I came up with for all four parties, the rewarded (those who receive awards), the overlooked (those who miss out), the standby (those who are there simply to be in the mist of rewardness) and the friend (those who are there to support the rewarded or the overlooked.

Pointers for THE REWARDED
1. Appreciate that not everyone got awards
2. Don't brag un-necessarily
3. Acknowledge that you did something right
4. Only make a thankyou speech if invited to
5. If making a thankyou speech make it short & to the point
6. Be a good sport by not pushing the overlooked down

Pointers for THE OVERLOOKED
1. Appreciate that not everyone gets awards
2. Don't be a bad sport by pushing the rewarded down
3. Acknowledge that you shouldn't do things simply for rewards
4. Remember there is always next time, even if its not for the same thing
5. When awards are received by others applaud with the audience
6. Do not hold a grudge against those who received the award you expected

Pointers for THE STANDBY
1. When awards are received by others applaud with the audience
2. remain quiet unless invited to speech
3. don't be a bad sport by pushing the overlooked down
4. don't be a bad sport by pushing the rewarded down
5. don't drink too much, even if you are bored
6. stay seated. do not go to the toilet or play with phone

Pointers for THE FRIEND
If your friend received award...

1. Be happy for your friend and show them so.
2. Applaud with audience (without whistling)
3. stay seated. do not go to toilet or play with phone

If your friend was overlooked...

1. Sympathize with your friend. show them you care
2. stay seated. do not go to toilet or play with phone
3. make sure your friend doesn't drink sorrows away or behave badly.

Down under Designer the new Succession

"What do you think about the latest Australian Fashion Competition in young women?"

I've got to admit that I'm not the first person to run into a store to buy the next pair of Tony Bianco Pumps or Alannah Hill Blouse but that doesn't mean I don't like what they have to offer. A competition seems to have risen in the past few months, similar to the "Keeping up with the Jones" senario.

This new competition is homegrown as well, with young women pushing away worldwide brands such as Gucci and Guess to focus on Australia's talent. This is probably because the new Australian Designers have a fresher more Australian feel to their clothes. Young men are wearing checked shirts from Australian brand BANG and boots from R.M.Williams. The surpise is the majority of these men are heterosexual and yet, they are developing an interest is Australian fashion, just as women have.

The problem is however that people don't want american or french brands they want homegrown and they are competing to claim the prize of 'aus. brand savvy'. Every second teenage girl owns a Guess wallet so as all other designer pieces they have lost their status. Guess has become tacky. But how many girls own an Alannah Hill evening dress or Sass & Bide jeans? These items are rare amongst teenage friends, therefore they have status and as it happens those who own them have status. This is why generation Y has gone SO CRAZY over Australian brands. The status is overwhelming.

Sure, Chanel and Louis Vuitton may still loom over our heads but every girl and boy wants a piece of Australian Designer. It's the new movement, and frankly I'm loving it!

Whiten up your day!

So metallics have suddenly melted away since spring hit it's peak, black stockings have drowned in a lake with boots running out the door. Some people would say this is a fashion disaster! That without boots and stockings we simply can not live on! Who truly believes that? Fashion is always. There are always new trends even if the economic 'problems' suddenly dry up casual workers money.

So? What am I going on about? Why am I asking so many rhetorial questions? Well. It's because instead of mopping around I believe you should go out there and fix up your wardrobes with the newest trends to hit the stores. The trend? Crisp White. Why so trendy? White is the new black darling!

Pick up a white blouse from basically any female apparel stockist to refurnish your look. It's oh so easy and oh so inexpensive. White shorts are also going to be HUGE so why not invest in a pair of them. Oh here I am blabbering, go out and put life back into that broken fashionista's heart!

The challenge of the full robe

Somehow there seems to be something truly liberating about emptying a full ironing basket. The thrill of a full wardrobe of newly pressed items free to wear at any time you please. I discovered this liberation this afternoon, after spending one and a half hours ironing over twenty pieces of clothing I have worn over the past couple of months.

It seems that over the past few months or so I have simply taken the piece I'd like to wear out of the ironing basket, ironed it and left the others for later. This afternoon as I was "re-fabulizing" (new word, like it?) I came across a dress and a shirt I had not worn since MAY! That was when I released the true extent of my laziness.

It was also today that my mother finally agreed with me that my wardrobe is way too small for my personality. I have enough clothes to clothe my whole grade at school with some left over! I love my clothes but there is simply not enough room for all the fabulous items I've treasured over the past couple of years or so.

I was considering buying an exterior frame for my bedroom but realised it would probably make my room look cluttered, like one of those rooms that has never had anything moved from it but items added.

So there I was, with one small wardrobe, gorgeous blouses, dresses, coats and skirts & a room I did not want to clutter. Who do you think came to my rescue? Suprisingly it was my brother who showed me the new BIG W catalogue. Guess what's on sale at the moment? Single Clothing Frames!!! They are only $20 and they are small and versatile with wheels! I just hope they don't run out of stock!

So there's my little story. An ironing basket which was once full of clothes is empty and a wardrobe which was already cluttered is now full, so i am in need of re-inforcements and hopefully Big W can help me gather the materials I need.

Well have a great night everybody

Little Fashion's Sweethart has herself a new job

So I think it's probably about time for me to announce that I have just gotten a new Job! I will be working, starting next month, at a Diva Jewelers store! How exciting! I went to Induction on Saturday morning and found out a lot about my job there. I get to wear CORPORATE CLOTHES! It is going to be soooooooo much fun! We also have a song we dance to at every start of shift to pump us up...

How cool is that? Oh and keep your comments coming about the "sweethart's party" proposal.

Good morning sweetie,

I have a proposal for you. I recently received an email from a reader
suggesting a party especially for sweetharts in Brisbane. I thought about
it for a couple of months and decided it's really up to you. If I have
enough enthusiasm i will organise something super special for you all. We
need enthusiasm though and I need your help. If you'd like to come send a
reply to this email or drop a comment on the website. You will be able to
bring your friends along to the party if it happens and there will be free
food and drinks for everyone. It will be my thankyou for all your support.

I's time to get out the party dresses and oversized clutches as Party season is on it's way. Lots of fun for fashionistas in the up coming season. I suggest a pair of printed or patent heels with a short party frock and a wild hairdo - Selma Blair inspired perhaps.

Ashton's interesting words

Ashton, the author of 'Intelligence is the New Black' wrote a very interesting blog on Thursday.
I thought I should share it will you...

"It's amazing, the amount of people that come and go in your life. Count the number of 'best friends' you've had. That girl in year 2 who used to save you a seat, the group you spent countless sleepovers with in year 7, the person who taught you how to put on eyeliner in year 10, the first person to take you for a ride in their car when they got their license in year 12... So many different people, affecting you in seemingly insignificant ways that have such a huge impact on your life. We still save seats, have sleepovers (although now they're at a boy's house), wear eyeliner (and mascara, blush, lipstick...) and go cruising with friends in our cars. Things aren't totally different, they've just adapted a bit with age. Remember that boy in year 8 who was soooo cute? And you totally went out, for, like, 3 whole days. That guy who you were going to be with 'forever and ever', and your 6 month 'anniversary' was the biggest deal in the world, right? And the other dozen or so who you've spent hours, and tears and silly little love letters pining over. So now it seems the people in my life are dropping like flies. Relationships are building and crumbling, starting and finishing in the blink of an eye. Is it that I can't hold down a steady relationship with anybody anymore? Don't be ridiculous. It's just that we've now reached a point where everyone is getting up and moving out, going in every direction available. We're all flying the nest in our own time, and it just so happens that very few people choose to go the direction I'm taking. So I guess it's getting time to say goodbye to those who are fading out of my current life, and hello to those up and coming in the near future. But be warned, you have some very big shoes to fill."

Doctors call it 'Oniomania'?

It has come to my attention that professors are beginning to see shopping as some sort of mental behaviour used by women to supress feelings they have about work, family and other stresses. One of the stresses that they suggested caused it was money worries. How ironic! You go and spend money so that you stop worrying about not having enough for rent. Oh yes. They've surely got the answer this time. They're even decided to give this sickness a name, 'Oniomania'. That's some rational thinking you have going on there Mr Scientist. Sounds like the name of an addiction to Omni (a bubbly wine) if you ask me.

Come On? Really? Shopping can be seen as a skill, a hobby, a leisurely activity for some. Some of us choose to shop to buy nice things, because we want nice things and because we can afford them. Others don't see it as their slice of cake, which I can kind of understand. The bewilderment of being pushed into a chain store like Dotti where they have so much to offer could scare a young adult from a rural community and the loud music blaring in stores such as Ice Design could have middle aged women racing out the door. Yes. It's a sad and suprising truth that even some men like shopping more than their mothers and sisters.

I am certain that I may spend a little bit too much on clothes. I am certain that I may influence some people to buy clothes occasionally. I am certain that I go a little over the top with fashionable presents for friends and family sometimes but that's not a problem for me. You see I buy all my own things. I don't take out loans to pay some credit card debt and I definitely don't ask family and friends for money. It's the way I work, to make sure I don't become dependent on these people and tools to pay for what I want.

You see there are three types of spenders.

There is the Smart spender; one who writes lists of what they need and rarely goes far away from the lists. They may stumble across something in a magazine and add it to the list but they won't impulse buy a $350 pair of Marc Jacobs heels just because they saw them in their size. These spenders rarely double up on an item and love their monthly fashion magazine fix.

There is the Indulgent spender; one who buys with compromise and only wants the best. They won't wait for the sale rack, if they see something they want... that they can afford, it's theirs. They rarely make lists but instead shop without much purpose or anything in mind. These shoppers will stock up on both chain stores pieces and designers brands such as Marc Jacobs and Alannah Hill.

There is the Sales spender; one who buys to save. This is the pot they put themselves into that makes them look irrational and sometimes even mental in the eyes of the 'experts'. It appears that these individuals will buy two pairs of sunglasses simply because its "buy one get one half price". They then end up with many items that they never wear because they only need the one.

So whichever spender you are; as long as you stay in your own moral guidelines and don't risk the rent you should go on shopping the way you are. Don't let any 'expert' tell you that you need to be hospitalised for this 'disorder' as you're only listening to your heart by buying that new pair of gladiator heels or aztec inspired tank.

Follow your heart & your wallet and you will always have a home

Dotti Bolero only $49.95! I bought this one last week because I could not resist.

Weekly Top 5: 6/10/08

This week's top five is very chanel based, as I've been dreaming of chanel handbags, perfume, catwalks and fabulous parties in Coco (or karl's) honour.

Shoots (or booties) are very big in Europe at the moment and are quickly making a come back to the Western world's magnificent catwalks. Chanel will always be my favourite universal brand with Karl Lagerfeld as one of the greatest designers that ever painted the runway with their designs. Butterflies seem to be the latest thing in accessories so I suggest you go way OTT on metallic butterflies. Truly the pattern remains, dress yourself in metallic and all onlookers will see is one sexy fashionista.

Quote of the Day: 02/10/08

“Fashion is architecture. It is a matter of proportions.”

- Coco Chanel
