Spring is almost here...

Is it not one of the biggest events of the year? Changing every little aspect of our lives every three months to fit with the weather, the sunshine, the cold and the different fruits. We eat differently, so in winter everyone seems to put on weight as they don't see their curves under their skin tight jeans and in summer everyone seems to lose weight as it appears they eat lots of fruit as it's in season and exercise regularly by playing summer sports.

What we have to look forward to this season...

* Ra Ra Skirts
* Bare Legs
* Fruity treats
* Swings at the Park
* Walking the dog
* Watching the sun set
* Red Lipstick
* Sunny Days
* An aussie BBQ with friends
* Floral Prints

The new season is all about experiencing new things, experiencing your life and the life others have, experience friendship, experience colour, experience fashion, but most of all learn how to experience you
... your inner being, your inner core ...
YOU!

20 Things For You To Do This Season

1. Go for a Dusk walk with your mum
2. Find yourself the perfect moisturiser

11. Race a friend down a grassy hill
12. Sing Karaoke to 'Mamma Mia' by Abba
13. Write your best friend a card just because
14. Learn a new sport

18. Choose your favourite photographer
19. Start reading a new magazine
20. Find the perfect sunglasses

Vintage Lighting by Beacon

Beacon lighting is home to a wide variety of lamps, spotlights, fans and chandeliers, both modern and classic styles. As I'm in love with victorian inspired furniture I couldn't help but fall in love with these pieces.

This detailed chandelier would be perfect above a staircase or on the entrance landing (where you would of course have a vintage coat stand, oh what love). I love the way it looks rusted and old, as if it was from the 19th century London or Paris.

These are some lifestyle shots avalible to look at on Beacon's Website. I love the left one's desk and the mirrors. Not the right lighting for what I'm looking for, but the furniture is just delightful.

The one on the right has the most amazing chair. I would love a chair like that in the study. I also love the window box, my parents have one of those and it is the best place to think.

I love all three photographs. I swear they are looking into my dream house! The chandelier on the left is the same as the one at the top of the page except it's in pale pink.

I'm actually looking at buying this lamp for my bedroom. I looked at it instore today. It was only $47 so it's a real steal. I'm going to think about it a bit more and if I still want it next weekend I'll surely buy it.

How cute are these. The one on the left is actually shorter, but the pictures are the same size so that's why they look the same height. I would love both to sit in the lounge room beside each other to add variety and volume.

I love this. The chair is gorgeous as is the dresser and the chandelier. Oh how I want my own home now. *sigh*

Saying Goodbye to winter

Winter 2008 certainly was a cold one in Brisbane. We had the scarves out to pair with our black stockings and Mary Jane Heels. Winter was also quite a busy season, with students crunching assesment deadlines and Parents racing around trying to get their little ones in sweaters.

Winter is a season that will always have it's high points and it's low points, just like any other. This winter we experienced the 'Sex & The City' movie in cinemas, we also got to watch Australia win Gold at the Olympics and we were able to bring the Beret back for the first season in years, however the harsh wind wore out delicate skin, and gothic coats made an appearance, reminding us that winter is not perfect.

The things we will miss about Winter
* Sweater Dresses
* Leg Warmers
* French Berets
* Naked Lips
* Kohl Eyes
* Dancing in the rain
* hot baths
* Tulle skirts
* Winter Snuggles
* Open fire places

The things we are happy to leave

* Gothic Coats
* Tracksuits
* leaving our legs unshaved
* The harsh wind
* Stressed Crying
* Chilblains

Sweet Outfit: 23/08/08

Today I woke up with a sore throat, no voice and a bit of a cough, so what did i do? I didn't go around in track pants, my definition of telling everyone to feel sorry for 'oh poor sick me'. Instead i dressed up in my new dress, that i got for my birthday and dolled up, to make myself wakeup. I will not act sick if i dress nicely. This is a philosophy i hold very close to me. If you wear pyjamas all day then your going to be tried all day. If you wear your uniform, you will act like your at school, so if you actually do work this will be the best dress code when you have to do assignments, if you muck about, dont wear your uniform when studying.

Listening to Mamma Mia while I got ready probably influenced my outfit choice, hence the below photography of Meryl working it in the block buster film (in cinemas now).

Today I wore...

- New Dress from Supre
- Brown bust belt from Ice Design
- 3/4 Tights from Supre
- Brown Heels from Wildfire
- Gold earrings from Equip
- Beige Cardi from Dotti
- Brown Bag from Mooloola

What will Generation Z dread?

What's in store for the children of the next generation, generation Z? Fashion wise of course. What will they look at in their parent's photo albums and screech at? What will they vow to never wear, but just happen to change their minds if it comes back into fashion?

Well my idea, is that some trends that are scattered all over our streets at the moment just have to go. The only reason they're called trends is because everyone's wearing them, but just because everyone's wearing them it doesn't mean they're good.

There are some things i wear that my friends may find amusing, but that's their own choice. I, myself, happen to like what i wear and the trends they come from. Flannel is a brilliant timeless trend, as well as skinny jeans and ankle boots. Who can forget the classic canvas shoe and the bikini? These are some things that generation Z will carry on, and pass on to their own children.

The things that won't be passed on? The train wrecks of our time? These items are discovered through personal beliefs, values and quite frankly perspective. I think highwaisted denim jeans or shorts give a woman toad-stool hips (effect caused by tight clothing which leads to the hips looking bigger than they actually are). I also believe that we have to get rid of the whole 200 bangles at a time thing. Who are we kidding? No one can be productive with a mountain of large bangles on their wrist. Try three or four skinny ones or one large one in order to have a child who wants to dress like mummy used to.

Tiered feathers were a mistake to start with but, suprisingly i predict that fur still won't be out. It will be a reoccuring pattern of law suits and yet particular people will choose to ignore these messages and continue to buy coats made of animals.

So forget about the whole philosophy that we dress better than our mothers because most of us break these rules. Most of us follow trends that don't flatter us or our jobs, and most of us, simply have no idea.

a little cynical, but that's okay

Casual Dress the easy way

I received this email yesterday from a student who goes to my school, asking me about our upcoming "Free Day Day" (casual dress day), which happens to be taking place tomorrow.

"My school is having a free dress day later this week. I was wondering what i should wear. I have all the clothes but no inspiration. Help!"

It can be difficult to find something to wear when you've got so many clothes. I, for one, am constantly confronted with a wardrobe full of clothes, but no idea what to wear. I'm a fussy fashionista who won't wear the same outfit in the space of a month. Layering and mixing outfits can help to give your style a new healthy vibe and make you feel fabulous, so i would suggest that as a start this cold season.

As I am aware school casual dress days concern enclosed shoes, sleeved shirts and clean hemlines. With this in mind I would suggest a pair of ballet flats or ankle boots. The trends I would probably wear a bohemian dresses; with stockings, sheer shirts, skinny jeans and aline skirts. Try one trend at a time though, unless you're pairing aline skirts or skinny jeans with sheer shirts.

Makeup should remain neutral with jewelry at a minimum, as to coincide with the school rules. Remember to style your hair in an up-do rather than letting it free, as nits are always feasting away in schools.

French connections?

Some would say that Paris is a dirty city, where cats prowl on the streets and everyone throws there remaining bread sticks on the curb, but I find this hard to believe. How can Paris be such a dirty city if it has such neat and clean cut clothing. Paris is the home to the mother of all fashion weeks, would you have guessed it's called French Fashion Week? This famous and fabulous week is held twice a year, once before each season. (spring/summer & autumn/winter)

I mention this because I struck up a conversation with a close friend about Paris recently and we decided we just had to go. October French Fashion Week 2010 (spring/summer) here we come!

How do I wear Sheer?

Looking over my messages in my email inbox this afternoon for a question to answer i came across, one that is a very fashion-related question indeed.

"I love how you put your own outfits up sometimes. I saw a photo of you in a cream shirt, that you wore for a party that had ruffling and was slightly see through. Now I've been seeing them everywhere. What are they called, where can I buy them and how can I pull it off like everyone else has?"

Well, Sheer shirts seem to be my new favourite trend, i have them in purple, cream and black. This is the name of the shirt you found on my space, which i wore to my mother's 40th. I bought this specific one at Dotti but they are also avaliable in Bardot and Miss Shop @ Myer.

I first found out about Sheer shirts in "Shop" magazine, although they didn't have much on how to wear them, just where to buy them. Interesting thought really, how do you wear Sheer?

Of course you need to wear another singlet underneath, as not to expose yourself. It is suggested to wear with a hipster style jean or short or with a plain aline skirt. Do not wear with ruffles! If you are thinking of wearing this with a rara skirt or highwaisted pants think again! There is a reason why they say one statement piece at a time and sheer tops certainly clarify as a statement piece. Wear them with elegant jewelry such as pendant necklaces, pearl earrings or a pandora bracelet.

Japanese fashion on the internet

I recently received an email suggesting that i visit the Japanese Style Arena website, as i shall be travelling to Japan in one month. I can't see myself wearing any of the trends present on the website, but it was worth a look.

Rosebullet is another website that i stumbled across while i was browsing japanese fashion on the internet. It's full of fabulous japanese layering, which would be chic, even when in france.

Finally, how about a website of Japanese fashion which has been inspired by art or literature, such as minnie mouse & the disney princesses? Just head to Tokyo Tribe for all the fun!

Only one month!!!

A week of birthday wonders

(Fig 01)

Fig 01:As I've already mentioned, it was my 17th birthday last Wednesday. As well as other gifts, I received a pandora bracelet, a care bear, an electric toothbrush, a candle frame, money, a landscape hardcover book of photography prints & quotes (top right), a brown bag (bottom right), a guardian angel and a pink clutch (top left).

Fig 01:I also spent $20 on three books from scholastic, which arrived last week. These were all My Story editions, with the titles "who am i?" (which i have already read), "Pompeii" & "Princess of Egypt". (bottom left)

(Fig 02)

Fig 02:On my birthday I made a trip to Queen street to spend my birthday moeny. With the money I bought two block colour tops in brown and grey (2 for $20) and a black cardi ($25) from cotton on. I also bought a white blouse from temt for $25.

(Fig 03)

Fig 03:On thursday I checked out Dotti and managed to score this little purple blouse for only $20, hot off the sales rack, RRP $50. I rarely buy clothes off sales racks because their usually nothing in my size, but this little number was something i just could not resist.

What a busy busy week I've hard

Formal Frenzy

Clairzy & Yee (in her short dress)

Funny enough my senior formal was on Friday. The men were all oh so dashing and the girls were a vision in their lengthy, and some not-so-lengthy formal gowns. It was not a night for the trends, but one for class. Trends made a rare appearance in fact, with only a bare handful draped in one shoulder silk gowns and only a couple of shear dresses, but that's not to say that everyone wasn't looking their best.

One of my best Friends besided to turn up in a short bubble number with neutral stockings, black heels and black gloves. Not quite the one who likes to dress up but she did quite well and even got her hair cut especially for the occasion. Another of my friends chose to design her own dress, a red moulin rouge number with a slight to the side to prove it. This dress was sexy, although classy at the same time and worked for her perfectly.

Among others was another girl who chose to channel Paris Hilton. She was dressed in pale pink with hollywood curls, her skirt pinned to resemble that of Beauty from Beauty and the beast. This was a dress captivated everyone in the room, setting off cameras and gossip about who, what & how.

Clairzy & Paris + Clairzy with her girls

With the good came the bad. Tandoori tans, purple hair, popping breasts and hairy legs. Surely that isn't that bad though, namely saying that I did not mention anyone's dress being a breach of the formal code.

During the formal of course there were the moments you wished had never happened, although loved to laugh at all the same. My moment would have to be when one of my friends and I accidently flung a bread stick off the table.

So how was your formal? Classy. Chic. Brilliant. Amazing. Fabulous.

I'm off, but keep your emails coming.

Lots of Love
