Autumn Shoes

Good afternoon my sweetharts,
I love shoes. They are one of the most amazing constructions every designed by man. They keep your feet warm, they complement your outfits, they can ever make you taller. So in honour of shoes I thought I'd have a little blogpost on what's out there this autumn/winter season.

The Fringe Boot: A bohemian's favourite ths fringe boot is making a splash this season coming in black, brown and latte. The perfect style is an ankle boot in brown with a cork heel.

The Mary Jane: A shoe home to film starlets, models, teenage girls and joyous receptionists the Mary Jane Heel is fabulous. In her traditional black she arouses women everywhere and in her not-so-traditional contemporary colours and fabrics (think thick skyhigh patent heels) women like Victoria Beckham find their heart skipping a beat.

The Shoe Boot: The Victorian classic; smart, sexy, sophisticated and spectacular. Who would have thought a confused heel such as a laced boot could have turned so many heads? I recently picked up a pair of black cork heel shoe boots. They are so comfortable and so, so versatile. These are my hot pick for Autumn definitely.

The Knee High Boot: This piece never seems to fade from the fashion books. Made famous in the sixties with the GoGo boot the knee high boot is a piece worth adding to your wardrobe for season after season wear.

The Ballet Flat: An Audrey Hepburn favourite this piece has all the makings of a great shoe minus the heel. She's comfortable, stylish, versatile and feminine. If you opt for a day without heel this girl would be the perfect choice.

The Patent Pump: There's never a dull moment with patent. Dress it up or dress it down. Try in black or try in red. This shoe is at it's best when dressing up a pair of skinny jeans and a shimmery top. Try red peeptoes for added
pa-zaz.

Seeing three? haha. Hello everybody, one day of my shopping ban to go and i've never be happier. I've just finished my first discussion board piece for uni and it's on the coolest book ever "Anastasia"! I thought of posting my review I did in december but thought better of it as university language has got to be more formal. Anyway, today I met up with one of my best friends and we bumped into some of our other friends and then I came home to do some things for uni.

weekly rambles #030: 27/02/09

I've been surfing YouTube. I love watching old shows and new ones. I love watching videoclips and so I've got a bunch of videos for you. With a theme of course... "bitches" haha.

My favourite bitch of all time is of course Izzy Hoyland off Neighbours. She may have left more than two years ago but she'll always be the best thing that happened to Ramsay Street, or the worst, whichever way you see it.

I find it interesting that Elle & Paul are the only two in this flick that are still on the show. Isn't Izzy awesome?

...and again Toadie is the only way still on the show and the bikini show does not exist anymore.

In this scene Boyd mentioned the whole "Karl" thing. Karl left his wife for Izzy and after this scene she cheats on him with many other suitors. Interesting way of making friends.

Of course she left like many other characters do so that her puppet master Natalie Bassingthwaighte could fulfill her dreams as a singer.

Then there was Holly Valance's character Flick in Neighbours. She came years before Izzy but was just a fisty.

Again Steph is the only one still present in the series today.

Pretty well done if you ask me.

Haha. This is hilarious. Imaginary Bitches... haha.

15 trends to try this recession

You're probably hearing recession this and economic downfall that but in reality shopping bags have never been fuller. People still buy designer handbags, people still sell cars and some people still work at Hungry Jacks. There are some brands however that have had to shut down such as "Pacific Brands" and it's because people are starting to think they shouldn't spend even when they can. So if you don't want your favourite brands shut down this recession help them out. See the glass as half full and if you're still concerned then instead of buying a whole new wardrobe this autumn mix your own pieces up with new trends. I'd suggest...

1. Corporate shirts & white in general
2. Luxe Bohemian - prints, shorts cardis, a scarf
3. Layers and lots of them
4. Blazers - in tradition black
5. Pencil skirts
6. Flower Rings
7. Brights - dress, top, belt
8. Feminine prints
9. Leather Jackets
10. Big Bags - shoppers, totes
11. Soft Goth
12. Shoe Boots
13. Knee high boots
14. Bold Jewelry
15. Tan Accessories

Country Folk

Autumn, how can one describe Autumn? In the city, it's all hustle and bustle with knee high boots, leather jackets and aline skirts. In the country, however, it's the time of year crops are planted, it's the time of year the lands turns orange and it's the time of year layering is essential. So why not adopt country this autumn, minus the crops of course. Layer it up in this season's 'Country Folk' with checked dresses, fine knits, printed scarves and blue denim.

Paris - when it sizzles

Audrey Hepburn was fabulous and her legend remains fabulous to this day. The 1964 classic "Paris - when it Sizzles" starring the actress in her most fabulous decade lets the actress shine like she does in no other film. She is reunited with "Sabrina" co-star William Holden in this spectactular masterpiece. Richard Benson (Holden) has been hired to write a film for a very famous producer and needs the help of a typist (Hepburn) to get him started. Their imaginations get the better of them and soon they're in a land of vampires, mafia and a glowing eiffel tower.

Romantic '50s

It just so happens that the upcoming season is one of many contrasts and contradictions. Feminine Grunge? Luxe Bohemian? There's never been a stranger season. It's lucky then that one of the next big trends is not a contradiction at all, in fact it couldn't be further from one. Romantic '50s is all about bringing back full aline skirts, ruffles, lace and floral prints. The key colours are none other than girly pink and cream with bold accesories to top off every outfit. Hang on to your pearls from last season as they are perfect to add to a '50s onsomble. Oversized hangbags aren't needed here as Clutch purses are one of the signature pieces alongside neutral heels and ruffled skirts.

Step by Step guide to an Autumn Wardrobe

Step 1:
The Basics

the basic

Knee High Boots
Knee high boots have been around for decades. The ‘60s was full of Go Go dancing boots, the ‘70s full of platform boots, the ‘90s swarmed by combat designs and the present day full of many different designs. You could say the contemporary boot can not be forced into any one category. It’s embraced by all walks of life, whether it’s laced, tan, slouched or buckled the knee high boot is essential.

Skinny Jeans
Skinny jeans are not just for grunge favouring teenagers anymore. Guy bands are not the only ones that need these; many other stereotypes involve the thigh hugging design. Worn religiously in winter skinny jeans are the way to go.

Block Colour Scarves
When you’re having a rough time there’s nothing like a purple scarf to brighten up your day. To compliment your outfit opt for a scarf that contrasts the other items. E.g. Black & yellow

Lace
Lace has always been seen as a girly item, a feminine piece craved by old grannies and blushing brides, but now-a-days the coveted piece has a wider audience with teenagers, corporate women and nightclub beauties all adding a bit of lace to their robes. This autumn lace is best worm with a pair of skinny jeans or a corporate skirt to add a bit of masculinity to the all-over princess design.

Bold Belts
With neutral colours such as black, white and brown working their way into our everyday dress code we need something to make our outfits POP. This is where the bold belt comes in whether you choose to wear a colourful belt or a thick belt with silver hardware.

White Shirt
Ever girl needs a white shirt. My cousin who’s six has one for the park, my grandmother at the fabulous age of sixty-three has one for church and I have one for shopping, one for the movies, one for nights out and one for days when corporate dress is essential. I’m not just talking the plain dull crisp white shirt every lawyer owns, I’m talking a buttoned blouse whether it’s ruffled, tunic-inspired or down right casual, it’s a piece that will last the test of time.

Stockings
When I say stockings I mean black opaques that you can wear with dresses or skirts during winter. This is an easy and inexpensive way to use your summer pieces season after season. I for one wear them with everything.

Shoe Boots
These Victorian inspired icons are perfect for winter, autumn and spring. Team them with stockings or skinny jeans to add a trendy arty edge to a once simple outfit.

Step 2:
Five ways to wear a summer dress in Autumn

summer dress to winter: autumn brights

Autumn Brights: Compliment a colourful summer frock with colourful ballet flats and a white handbag. To move into winter with your dress throw on a long line cardigan and a pair of black stockings. When accessories are concerned keep it simple with one or two pieces.

summer dress to autumn: bohemian fantasy

Bohemian: To transfer your summer dress from beach front to bohemian chic add a pair of brown boots, a short sleeve cardigan and a matching scarf. To add something a little special try a bright flower brooch on the chest of your cardigan.

summer dress to autumn: corporate neutrals

Corporate Neutrals: When wearing a bright dress to the office make sure to keep the other pieces soft and neutral. Grey, white and black are perfect for this, You could even try to tuck your dress into a pencil skirt as these skirts are the best to help morph a dress into a blouse.

summer dress to autumn: fashion queen

Fashion Queen: To make a statement in your fresh new dress add crisp tailored pieces such as blazers, knee high boots, coloured totes and charm bracelets. On a cold day it's good to add a pair of black stockings to the mix.

summer dress to autumn: roch chic

Rock Chic: Use tough accessories to transform your dress into a rock star's ensemble. Pieces could include studded shoppers, ankle boots and a leather jacket. Jeans and a trilby will help enhance the "too cool for school" vibe.

Step 3:
Try New Trends

Rock Chic
This trend is, how should I say it, probably the baby of Kate Moss and Joel Madden with Sienna Miller and Karl Lagerfeld as it's Godparents. This trend is so far from a "Kiss" album cover you might as well say it's cousin to romantic florals. Studded pieces are of course a signature but don't look beyond a quilted bag and pair of shoe boots to glam it up. Black and purple are the colours to go for with items such as leather jackets, coats, stockings and laced tops.

Modern Bohemian
The bohemian has been part of fashion culture for decades. This season it's taking a slightly different edge with fringed boots and plaited headbands being the newest improvements. Purple, turquoise and green play alongside the usual culprits white, brown and black to modernise an old trend. Try pieces with character such as an antique belt or a scarf you made yourself. Remember Bohemian is all about mixing and matching so don't be afraid to try the unexpected. Add to your look with blouses from forever new, dress from Dotti and pendants from Diva.

Step 4:
How to save money this autumn

Without trying the impossible and not spending any money at all, you can help your savings account this autumn. Firstly, when it hits February don't buy any more summer items like shorts and sandals. They will just be a waste of space, as within a month you'll be glued to your jeans and boots. Instead focus on building your winter wardrobe. Look for cardigans, shoe boots, stockings, berets and jeans. Secondly, do not become a fashion victim! This is terrible for a girls wardrobe as within a month or two those once trendy pieces will hit your rubbish bin. Choose pieces that suit you. Make trends yours don't become the trend. If you like bohemian blouses wear them if you don't then don't buy them. You have got to love it, love it to buy it. Picture five different ways you can wear the piece before you buy it. If you can't it's not you. Thirdly, pack your lunch for school, work or university to save you from buying it. This also applies to beverages. I like to take my bottle of water everywhere so that I don't have to buy one. Finally, know what you have and what you don't. Perhaps write a shopping list before you go out to spend. Then if it's not on the list don't buy no matter what the sale.

Step 5:
Brands to love this autumn

Dotti
Cable knit coats, Berets and Long sleeve pieces

Ice design
Pencil skirts, Cable knits and Skinny jeans

Cotton On
Long-line cardigans, Ballet flats and Basic singlets

Valleygirl
Knitted dresses, Shaped cardigans and tights

Sportsgirl
Sparkly tights, Over-sized jumpers and blouses

Step 6:
Bag It

New season = new trends. New trends = new pieces. New pieces = new bags. The most popular bag at the moment is by far the shopper as it is versatile and always stylish. You can pick one up from strandbags or David Jones with any number of designs. The patent shopper may not be at it’s best at the moment but come Spring it will be the hottest item on the market. As for the leather shopper now is the time to purchase one in a coloured fabric. My favourite coloured fabrics are blue and purple. Another hot bag off the market is definitely the clutch purse, a bag suited for long lunches and parties. The messenger bag also makes an appearance in a smaller size. You can easily pick one of these up in a brown or a bohemian print.
